Strength and weight. 7075 aviation aluminum alloy is a cold-treated forging alloy with high strength, superior to mild steel. Its tensile strength can reach more than 500MPa. The tensile strength of stainless steel is generally about 300MPa. At the same time, the density of 7075 aviation aluminum alloy is 2.8 g/cm3, which is much lighter than that of stainless steel (7.8 g/cm3).
Conductivity and oxidation resistance. The conductivity of 7075 aviation aluminum alloy is between 17.7MS/m and 24.4MS/m, which varies according to the material state. It has strong oxidation resistance. In addition to stress corrosion, its resistance to general corrosion is equivalent to 2024 alloy. The conductivity of stainless steel is generally around 1MS/m, and its oxidation resistance is also poor.
Price and availability. 7075 aviation aluminum alloy is a high-end aluminum alloy with relatively high price, while stainless steel is a common material with relatively low price and relatively easy to buy.
